MidAtlantic Photographic Narrows Six Degrees of Separation in Harford County

The notion of six degrees of separation — that there are only six people between us and someone else as it relates to distance — is intriguing in itself. We’re all connected by “a friend of a friend, etc.” according to this theory. The bottom line is that we all have more in common than we think.

Applying that concept to some of the high-visibility, high-impact photography images around Harford County yields some interesting musings. Visit Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and see the Maryland Health Matters campaign.

Look out your window and see the Harford TRANSITLINK buses cruise by with giant images on the sides. Go shopping at Harford Mall and take in the life-sized banners of local doctors. Is there a common thread? Not apparent to the “naked eye,” as we would say, but yes, there is a common denominator.

The photography for each of these programs was done by MidAtlantic Photographic, the new commercial photography business by Robin Sommer and Bill Rettberg. Each was its own individual assignment, not related at the time, but yet becoming related if we choose to look at a different angle. It is much like the art of photography and looking through the lens at various angles. The angles are all inter-related, yet each has its own individuality.

In addition to these images, MidAtlantic Photographic has produced creative photos for Harford County government – of which Harford TRANSITLINK is an entity; Harford County Public Library, another government entity, and APGFCU Credit Union – a mainstay of Harford County. While none were necessarily referrals from another, they are each enduring, traditional and stable businesses in the county.

They work together to build the infrastructure of our community. Part of the way they do it is to focus on quality imagery. The “face” that each of these organizations puts forward to the public is created by a certain “look” that can only come from looking at them at a unique angle.

Are they really separated by six degrees? Who do you know at any of these organizations? It makes you scratch your head and say, “Hmmm.”
